    Crossfit

Perhaps you've seen the movie 300. Perhaps, like me, you consider it to be the greatest movie forever of all time in the world.

Well, there was a lot of CGI used in that movie, but not for the actor's physiques. Most of those guys were not in what you would consider amazing shape prior to making the movie, but got in good shape by training using the "Crossfit" method for 4 to 6 months prior to filming.

I typed in "Spartan Workout" +300 into Google and found a local gym that offers this method of training, called Crossfit. Turns out, Crossfit is a franchise that orginated on the West Coast and is what the actors in "300" based their training on. The popularity of the workout has really taken off since the movie came out.

Here's a clip of the 300 actors working out the Crossfit way:

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=uy2ElkOuNF0

The exercises are really fun. I grew bored of running quite a while ago, and I am officially bored with lifting weights as of about 3 months ago. Crossfit is a great combo of resistance and cardio training, and the workout is intense and non-stop for 25 minutes, so you really don't have time to get bored. The movements are unique, each one involves the entire body, and they constantly change them up. It's a blast, and has reinvigorated my exercise routine! You guys should do a simple search to see if there's a franchise in your area. If there's not, you should start one.

Here's a couple of pics they took the last time I worked out there. Note the perfect form.

Yes, Evans read an article, about 2 years ago on this, in Men's journal. Crossfit, the White-Hot, California based exercise program. There were 10 workouts in the magizine that we still have posted in the weight room at the office. I like the 1/4 run, 21 dumb-bell swings, and pull-ups X 3 rounds.....Sweat--Sweat. That program is what I mixed in with my running to train for the 1st Half-marathon we ran in. It will smoke you. The better shape you get, the faster you workout.

It's funny you should bring this up at all. I am not a man known for being in top physical shape, but am tired of getting fatter. I started a new workout this morning and did the Crossfit WOD (workout of the day) that you can get off their website each morning - even before I read your posts. I looked and said "good - starting it off easy - I needed that." My legs currently feel like tapioca pudding and the workout didn't last 20 minutes.

The fun part is not knowing what the workout is until you start each day. I say fun until I get online and it says "jump off the nearest bridge". Then, not so much. Not a good swimmer. Plus, the Forked Deer River isn't known for its depth.

Crossfit is huge in SF. The single-most popular training genre used.

I've been doing this for a month now and love it. It does completely kick my tail most days, but who cares since I found a workout I like. Everything is to go as hard as you can as long as you can without stopping or resting. I've lost 8 pounds already and haven't really changed eating habits.

So are you still doing the work out? I am trying to find a new work out that isn't boring so i might just give this a try.

I found a place here in Jackson MS that has a certified cross-fit program. I have been a few times.

I contacted the cross-fit kids people and asked some questions. To make a long story short I am flying to CA in one week to attend a cross-fit kids certification seminar.

I have been viewing the cross-fit website for a couple of months now and love it. When you have some time view the videos of demonstrations and workouts. There is some awesome stuff. I am looking forward to seeing what the Brand X workout place looks like in Ramona CA.

If you are a pe teacher or parent check out cross-fit kids and get your kids doing some of this stuff.

Also read the philosophy about defining fitness - excellent

I mix in a couple of the crossfit core workouts into my strength and conditioning program for my wrestling team. "Fran" and "Fight Gone Bad" are two work outs that will kick you ass.

I'm working more Crossfit elements into my workouts now. I've been a little apprehensive about it because the exercises but some extreme strain on your joints, so I'm looking at Crossfit's workout of the day and seeing if I feel comfortable putting that kind of pressure on the shoulder. Yesterday I did some burpee pull-ups. Yeah. Doesn't sound so bad, but after getting into them, it's a butt kicker.

Today's workout is 3 rounds of clean and jerk (135 lbs) and 30 GHD sit ups (I had to watch the demo) for time. The c&j will be really easy, as I've done those for 10 years, but the GHD sit ups might be a game changer. Plus, I'm doing the workouts after cardio, so this might also affect the level of ease.

Anyway, I'm easing into some CF after this four-year shoulder injury. Hope I'm not being stupid.

Been doing 100% Crossfit for just under one month in conjunction with a diet change. I've lost 13 pounds and 2 inches on my waist. Next week I'll probably be under 200 lbs for the first time since 1996. Fourteen freaking years.

So, yeah. I was in, I guess, above average shape before and now I'm running laps around myself from a month ago. Best thing is that I don't spend longer than 40 minutes in the gym, and most days I'm done in 20-30 minutes after a total tail kicker. I have pretty much sworn off the old weight lifting philosophy.

The diet part has really played a big role, too. It's called the Zone Diet if anyone is interested. Gotta cut your portions big time, but after a week it didn't bother me. I now eat half a piece of chicken for dinner for my main portion. It's not as bad as I'd thought it would be. Yeah, I get a little hungry, but I feel better overall. Just had to push through some hunger cravings at first. Honestly, most people eat way too much than what they need. Eating now is for nourishment and not pleasure. If eating is a hobby of yours, then this probably isn't for you. Then again, if eating is a hobby of yours, I encourage you to pick up a new hobby. Don't come down with Type 2 Diabetes. That's a disease people typically eat themselves into.

Both my wife and I have totally changed our lifestyle. We eat less, spend less, and feel motivated.

    Good, motivational advice all around.
