    Straw Poll

Toby, if you think this is a thread to itself, feel free to split it off.

This thread is very interesting converstion indeed. Reading through this got me thinking, so just for curiousity's sake I have a question to pose to all of you LU alumni.

How many of us are sustaining a career in our major field of study from LU?

If you are comfortable sharing, list your job then your major and minor. If you received post-graduate work, list where you got it. You don't have to get specific. I figure this might give us a cross section of what kind of a product LU has given us.

I am a Loss Prevention Manager for a major retail store.
I majored in History/Political science and minored in Criminal Justice (Sociology).
I don't consider myself having a career in my field of study.

I am a professional political operative.

I was a double major in Political Science and Criminal Justice.

I did one year of law school and decided that I didn't want to be a lawyer. I do have a career in politics and Lambuth allowed me to get in the proper circles to get started. Quite frankly, those that were politically active at Lambuth (Myself, Nathan James, Scott Golden and others) have been very successful and we all stay in contact with each other.

    Major - Sociology/Criminal Justice
    Minor - Biology

Major and minor were swapped my senior year due to the passing of Dr Lord. She taught multiple classes I needed to finish my Bio major and I just wanted to graduate at that point. So I switched them.
    Mistake.

So now, on days I loathe, I sit at a computer and figure out how to avoid the jimmy kicking that is inevitable. The automotive industry is home to the biggest egos I have seen. Oh, and I'm forced to listen to horrible, horrible ringtones, discussions about logistics (boring), "synergies", and "global consensus".

On days I enjoy, I visit plants, equipment suppliers, sometimes OEM customers. My favorite part of the job is staring at stuff and making people think I have a really good idea, but keeping it to myself at this time until a business case is completed.

So yeah. Job not Major related at all.

    Major- Business
    Minor- History

I own a computer business so I guess that's pretty much in line.
I own a business and I delete internet history.

    Major/history
    Minor/education

I farmed cotton for two years
I was a case manager at Pathways for 2 years
I have been a Police Officer for 6 years
You can fill in between jobs with BBQ smoker, grass mower, cotton sprayer, bull dozer, dirt pan, Truck servicer, and a Fortune Hi Tech failure. I tried sales, but I really could not get motivated plus I was not interested in kissing someones ass all day(it's a joke Mitchell--calm down)

I did take several Criminal Justice classes.
If not for the LU degree I would not have my job, it requires a four year degree.

It's really LU's fault that I didn't hit the street with my 6 string, writing songs about my life, and growing an under ground grass roots cult following. Today I could be living in a loft somewhere in LA talking to hippies about the country way of life and how college is a funnel for the system. Stray brothers, stray and sow your seeds. Thanks LU for cookie cutting me and stripping me of my originality.......
